Champaign powder and huge resort improvements have made Steamboat Springs a premier ski destination in the west. Steamboat is over 100 years old but has modern ski resort upgrades and amenities. Steamboat also has a family-oriented feel with special programs for children and teens. Steamboat is known for legendary powder and over 3,000 acres of skiing terrain. The resort also caters to snowboarders with the infamous Maverick's Superpipe—North America's longest halfpipe.

The Steamboat Springs Nordic ski areas offer groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails that wind through the aspen groves, over flat, easy rolling terrain, and even lakeside runs. Most of the cross-country ski trails can accommodate all ability levels, from first time skiers to advanced mountainside trekkers. Trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing.
A few of the touring centers offer full-service shops with the latest in cross-country ski equipment including ski, bindings, boots and gear. Most will also offer snowshoe rentals that accommodate all sizes as well.
