Champaign powder and huge resort improvements have made Steamboat Springs a premier ski destination in the west. Steamboat is over 100 years old but has modern ski resort upgrades and amenities. Steamboat also has a family-oriented feel with special programs for children and teens. Steamboat is known for legendary powder and over 3,000 acres of skiing terrain. The resort also caters to snowboarders with the infamous Maverick's Superpipe—North America's longest halfpipe.

Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing

The Steamboat Springs Nordic ski areas offer groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails that wind through the aspen groves, over flat, easy rolling terrain, and even lakeside runs. Most of the cross-country ski trails can accommodate all ability levels, from first time skiers to advanced mountainside trekkers. Trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing.

A few of the touring centers offer full-service shops with the latest in cross-country ski equipment including ski, bindings, boots and gear. Most will also offer snowshoe rentals that accommodate all sizes as well.

  • Lake Catamount Ski Touring Center: Drive east out of Steamboat Springs on Hwy 40 to 131 South. Turn left onto County Road 18. The touring center is on your left hand side. Please call (970) 871-6667 for more information. Roundtrip distance: varies. Rating: All levels. SS and XC
  • Steamboat Lake State Park Touring Center: Drive west out of Steamboat Springs on Hwy. 40 approximately 2 miles and turn right on Elk River Road (County Road 129).   • Steamboat Ski Touring Center: Take Mount Werner Road off of Hwy. 40 to Steamboat Boulevard. Head west on Steamboat Boulevard to the Ski Touring Center on the right. Call (970) 879-8180 or visit www.nordicski.net for more information. Rating: all levels
